WordPress stappen om een website te maken
Een eigen WordPress website maken, kan ik dat wel? Dat kun je zeker wel en waarschijnlijk nog gemakkelijk met een mooi design. Maar om aan de slag te gaan, is het belangrijk dat je een aantal stappen doorloopt. Zo kan het amper fout gaan.
Stap 1 WordPress installeren
WordPress is erg bekend om zijn gebruiksvriendelijkheid en de eenvoudigheid van installatie.  Je kan bij je hostingpartij vragen of zij de mogelijkheid hebben om WordPress te installeren. Sommige partijen hebben de optie voor WordPress bij een duurder pakket en andere hebben zelfs de ‘auto installer’ voor WordPress.
Stap 2 leren werken met WordPress
Op het internet staan veel video’s, maar ook kant en klare handleidingen om aan de slag te gaan met WordPress. Op deze manier leer je de belangrijkste functies en belangrijkste tips. Je kan er voor kiezen om het zelf uit te proberen, maar ook om een cursus te volgen of een wordpress website te laten maken.
Stap 3 Een WordPress template kiezen
Een voordeel van WordPress is dat er veel gratis templates beschikbaar zijn. Op deze manier kun je snel de vormgeving van je website bepalen en kun je vanuit de basis gemakkelijk jouw gewenste stijl creëren. Een nadeel hiervan kan zijn, dat het door alle mogelijkheden onoverzichtelijk wordt. Zo zie je wellicht door de bomen het bos niet meer.
Belangrijk bij WordPress thema’s is dat ieder thema door iemand anders ontwikkeld is. Zo hebben alle thema’s dus andere mogelijkheden en weet je dus niet hoe gemakkelijk de omgeving in te richten is.
Let op, een WordPress thema is anders dan een template. Een template is namelijk de vormgeving van de website en een WordPress een thema die laat zien hoe de back-end ingericht is. Een van onze favorieten thema’s is The7.
Stap 4 Je WordPress beveiligen tegen spam en hacks
WordPress is een populair systeem en dat zorgt er ook voor dat het een doel is van hackers en spammers. Want het komt bij veel websites voor en de slagingskans voor hackers en spammers is zo groter. Goed beveiligen is daarom van belang.
Om je website extra te beveiligen kun je het wachtwoord en de inlog aanpassen naar iets dat moeilijker te kraken is. Verder zijn er verschillende plugin’s die je kan installeren om een extra beveiliging laag toe te passen.
Stap 5 WordPress plugins
Plugins zijn stukjes die je kan toevoegen aan je website, dit zijn vaak extra functies die makkelijk kan inrichten. Ze lijken veel op de welbekende apps op je telefoon. Denk bijvoorbeeld aan een plugin om een contactformulier toe te voegen, pagina’s te dupliceren of de SEO te verbeteren.
Stap 6 invulling geven aan je website
Als je de basis afgehandeld hebt en een template gekozen hebt, is het van belangrijk om de website in te vullen met content en beeldmateriaal. Op deze manier krijgt jouw website de persoonlijke tint die jij er graag aan wilt geven.
